The copy is a completely different style to the website
If you visit a music website, you would expect the copy to be young, fresh and hip. It definitely would not be profound, intellectual or aloof. You have to make sure your content relates to who you are and what you do, but most importantly who your visitors are going to be. Otherwise you are going to confuse your visitors and deter them from visiting your site in the future.
Overcomplicating the text
When people want to find about you and what you do, they do not want to have to search through a huge bulk of text which talks about the company history and all of your achievements. They want to know the basic information: who you are, what you do and how you can be of benefit to them. If you cannot tell visitors this as soon as they land on your homepage, then they will soon be clicking off.
Avoid these common copywriting mistakes by remembering the following:
The best way to check for errors or typos in your content is by reading it out loud. This way you won’t be able to miss a single word and you will also gain perspective on how your visitors will read the text.
In order to make your copy relevant to the style of your website, make sure you remind yourself who you are writing to. Identify your target audience and keep them in mind at all time. Try thinking of someone you know who falls in that bracket and think about what you would say to them.
Keep website copy simple. This sounds easy enough but unfortunately people can’t resist rambling or throwing in a few words courtesy of their thesaurus. Simple copy is effortless for your visitor to read and it looks more sophisticated if you can just let the product sell itself.
